Just did the brake bleed and it went shockingly well. No broken bleed screws. No bubbles. Those who suggest the Motive Power Bleeder were 100% accurate. Not sure why I’ve been messing with the MightyVac before this.

Now the only non-reassembly based tasks are:

Reinstall bleed nipple covers

Spark plugs

Mod air box

Replace thermostat

That is it. The rest is just putting stuff back and bleeding the cooling system.

Getting excited to get the big cat back on the road and figure out what I screwed up.

EDIT: Wait that is the wrong car haha. Well anyways how is the head gasket situation on the Alfa? Wrong british car in my head.

Haha the Alfa is in time out until after the Jag maintenance gets finished, the Disco gets new shocks, and the Saab gets some love. Problem with having a lot of mechanical brothers and sisters is some times you have to wait your turn...

Well done, don’t discount the thermostat going wrong, though.

I broke off a bolt on my 85 XJ6 thermostat because they were super long bolts that went all the way through the housing and it was all encrusted.

Fortunately I was able to take the water rail off pretty easily to work on it but it did take longer than it needed to.

Yeah with my silly reliable japanese cars the only problem I run into at the same time is that both cars are out of gas. Fuel light on the subaru right now and buried in the E on the Miata. At least that is an easily rectifiable problem! Only thing that sucks is the nearest gas station is about 20 minutes from home. And the nearest affordable one is 30 minutes away (about $1 difference in price per gallon).

Yeah getting the housing off was a monster. Very inaccessible torx bolt. Hoping getting it back on won't suck as bad as getting it off.

Congrats, always nice to tick stuff off the list. Glad you like the motive bleeder. I love mine. I’ve had to replace the bleeder pressure hose and the tank o ring, but I’ve had mine for more than 8 years.

I need to bleed the brakes on the F-type when I get back to CA as well as do an oil change. Annoyingly, I think I’m going to need to buy some tools to do both. I need a power bleeder for the brakes (otherwise it would take years to do by myself) and a similar contraption to extract the oil.

I’m excited to see you have this thing back on the road.
